AKC Golden Retriever Puppies
Information about our reservation process.
|
How our reservation process works. We are not commercial breeders, but even as enthusiast for the golden and as hobby breeders, we have found that when we have pups it is important to follow an establish procedure for deposits, including a contract and policy for placement. Just as we believe there are certain genetic screening the parents must pass prior to producing offspring. Although it seems formal we have found that this upfront clarity allows us and the new owners to focus on the right match for pup and home - this of course is the most important aspect of properly placing puppies. This is a time for you to be sure that an active large breed dog is appropriate for you lifestyle, we rely on your accurate communication of your lifestyle. |

Inquiry phase: |
During this phase you contact us via email or phone or online application. We ask each other a lot of questions to find out if a puppy from one of our dogs may be a match for your home. It is very important to find the right match for your home, and this initial contact is the time to do this. If we do not believe that one of our pups is right for your situation, we may refer you to another breeder if we know of one that can meet your needs. If one of our puppies will work for you then we move on to the next phase if you choose. |
|
Contract review: |
We email a contract in the form of a pdf file. In this contract is the name of the sire, the dam, the anticipated time frame for birth, the price of the puppy and deposit information. Also included are the terms of the health guarantee covering hips and eyes and the expected responsibilities of the puppy owner. Contracts are only sent after the initial inquiry phase. |
|
Reservation: |
After review of the contract, if the terms are acceptable to you, the completed contract with deposit is mailed to our address. The postmark on your envelope is considered the deposit date. For those using PayPal to make a deposit, the PayPal date is the official deposit date. |

Reservation order and puppy selection: |
We maintain two lists in our reservation order, working and non-working. The homes of each have different needs. Puppy selection begins with the working homes in order of deposit, followed by the non-working homes, only if there are non-working homes accepted in the reservation process. Since we have been observing pups their entire lives and know them well we work closely with the new owners for selection of pups that best suit their needs. It is important for new owners to be clear about what they are able to provide for a puppy. All aspects of the new home are considered for puppy placement, including other pets, children, yard size and the amount of time the new owner will have to spend with a new pup. You must keep in mind that hunting dogs are active dogs and enjoy being a part of family life. |
|
Setting go home date: |
When the pups are born we contact each new owner and post the information with pictures on our website. At that time we set the go home dates and advise the new owners of their times for pick up. This is a collaborative effort that takes a lot of coordination with many driving long distances or flying in to pick up their pup in person. |
